Criteria

Every review is of course bound to be somewhat subjective. Nevertheless, I have tried to develop a set of more or less objective criteria, mentioned below:

The text is of primordial importance. Not only does it have to be understandable from a purely phonetical point of view, but I also expect it to convey the original intention, i.e. putting the right stress on word and senctence level.

Performances that try to take into account the most recent scientific progress in semiology will get a higher rating than the so-called classical approach.

It has to be a vivid, expressive performance, of outstanding musical quality. That requires making the difference between expression neumes and fast neumes, neum division and other rhythmic elements contained within the neumes.

The choir has to be composed of good voices, producing a homogenous sound.

There has to be some kind of logical structure in the programme, preferably a liturgical link between the chants.

The documentation presented in the booklet has to be correct and complete, presenting the full texts with their translations, preferably in combination with some background as to the history of the chant and its restoration.
