Gregorian chant is heavenly music, even if it is being assaulted by an organist with more haste than talent on a ramshackle instrument, but of course even more when sung by a choir of Benedictine monks following the strict and rediscovered rules. Pure beauty cannot be broken, not even by a Vatican Council that clearly promoted the use of the vernacular language and music in the liturgy. Although Gregorian chant kept its title of official church music, it was replaced practically everywhere by pathetic singalongs. Even priests simply believed Gregorian chant had been abolished. But then again, that just might have been a good thing, too...
